Hello all,

If a man marries his brother's wife, it is an act of impurity; he has dishonored his brother. They will be childless.
[Leviticus 20:21]

If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband's brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her.
[Deuteronomy 25:5]

Can a Christian or Jew help me understand the above?, I tried to work it out but I hit a brickwall

Thanks in advance

As far as I think, one commandment refers to while the brother is still alive (although the Scripture should make this clear) while the other refers to after a brother has died.

This is actually a custom observed by some communities here (both Islamic and Non-Islamic) in India. In some communities the younger brother must marry the widow of his elder brother and look after and bring up the children left behind.

Even if he is in love with some other girl, he must give up his choice to pick up what is considered a family responsibility.

What is the actual Islamic position from legal angle?

I would very much like to know ?????????????????????¢???????????????¢????????????????¬???????????????¢?? either from the Koran or the Hadith.

Love,

Salam bro

There is no law in Islam to marry the widow of a broher, however I have seen it in Egypt many times and they do it to protect and support the widow and her children

the first wife must accept though

my concern is simply the bible contradicted itself in the above two verses, I also believe that it can't be wqhile the brother is alive because when he is alive he is already married to his wife so why his brother marry her while she is married to his brother?

it makes no sense bro

the verses above are only while the brother is dead

salam bro
